The official Ukraine crypto wallets are now accepting donations from the Polkadot (DOT) network. In that context, co-founder Gavin Wood donated $5.8 million or 298,367 DOT. Calls from the crypto community for Ukraine to accept other cryptos have been answered.
The official Ukraine Twitter account confirmed that it will now accept donations from Polkadot (DOT), while other cryptos will be soon get added.

Notably, the co-founder of Polkadot Gavin Wood had previously shared that in case the Ukraine wallets were to add DOT, he would contribute $5 million. Wood made true on his promise, donating 298,367.2269896686 DOT, which is worth about $5.7 million, to Ukrainian wallets.

Cumulative crypto donations for Ukrainian charities, the government and the military have been more than $37 million so far. Wood’s donation makes up around 10% of the total crypto donations.
His donation is one of the biggest individual crypto donations to date. Sam Bankman-Fried’s platform, FTX, reportedly donated $25 to every Ukrainian on his crypto exchange, while CEO Deepak Thapliyal of Chain.com is said to have donated 100 Ether which translates to more than US$280,000.
Ukraine IS Receiving A Lot Of Crypto Donations
Apart from Wood, the Polkadot network had already contributed more than $210,000 to the official DOT wallet for the nation ravaged by war since March 1, according to Polkadot blockchain data. For the cryptos that are not accepted by Ukraine, Coingate, a Lithuanian fintech, has said that it will, offer a workaround. As a payment gateway for cryptos, Coingate enables the holders of other cryptocurrencies to donate to Ukraine.

For now, Coingate manages the crypto payments hosting more than 70 cryptos, eventually crediting the Ukraine bank account with Euros. Coingate said:
“In the past five days, we have raised 7000 EUR from various crypto communities.”
