Many artists continue leveraging non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to make life-changing revenues and passive incomes. Victor Langlois, a transgender teenage artist, is the latest perfect example, has made nearly $50 million in slightly over a year from the sale of his NFTs.
According to an exclusive report published by NBC News on June 6, the 19-year-old artist became famous after selling his physical artwork for $2.16 million last week at Christie’s auction house in New York.
Victor Langlois, also known as “FEWOCIiOUS,” auctioned his non-fungible tokens titled “Hello, I’m Victor, and This Is My Life,” which showcased his 14 to 18 childhood life and gender transition.
In April, Langlois made several more profile sales in NFT art, including selling nearly $20 million worth of digital art in 24 hours. The new report noted that his sales represented the third-largest in history for NFTs marketplace Nifty Gateway. While commenting about the NFT sales at the time, Langlois said:
“It’s been hard for me to process, to be honest. The dream isn’t to relax and do nothing, the dream is to draw.”
Langlois Showcases His Life Using NFTs
In his first NFT collection, Langlois focused on showcasing his life story from ages 14 to 18, including his experience in an abusive household and living with his grandparents in Las Vegas. At the time, Langlois said he was afraid to come out as transgender in a religious family.
Buy Crypto NowIn a short interview with Christie Auction House in June 2021, Langlois revealed that his grandmother questioned his artistic pursuit, encouraging him to take a relatively more secure career path. He explained:
“To see me wanting to pursue art, she was like, ‘What? Be a lawyer.’ Which, I don’t understand. But it hurt when she would say, ‘Your art is ugly, and that’s why you can’t do it.’”
In December 2021, Langlois told Coinbase crypto exchange in an exclusive interview that NFTs had taught him that “art is not just a matter of painting.” On April 20, Coinbase announced launching its beta NFT marketplace version, “Coinbase NFT.”
