Shopify NFT merchants can now use the “tokengating” tools to help dictate which tokenholders can and cannot gain any access to exclusive products, nonfungible token (NFT) drops, and benefits.
Crypto-friendly e-commerce giant Shopify has launched an incredible suite of blockchain commerce tools to boost the user experience of their Web3-focused stores hosted by the firm.
Confirming this move through Twitter on February 9, Shopify blockchain team designer @ryancreatescopy said:
“We’ve launched some fresh tools to help you build tokengating apps for Shopify merchants.”
Particularly, expanded crypto wallet link features and “tokengating” application programming interface (API) tools have already been highlighted. The latter has been in early access beta access mode since June 2022 and was in the past just available to a chosen number of merchants.
With tokengating, all the applicable Shopify merchants can now set up their virtual stores to dictate which of the tokenholders can and cannot gain access to the exclusive products, nonfungible token (NFT) drops, and advantages.
The tool authenticates user eligibility through their linked wallet and is now getting touted as a handy way for the nonfungible token merchants to reward various users or feature exclusivity to particular products.
In the terms of expanded cryptocurrency wallet support, Shopify has integrated the sign-in with Ethereum (SIWE) protocol led by the Ethereum Foundation and the Ethereum Name Service (ENS).
SIWE fundamentally supports secure user sign-ins and authentication of Ethereum accounts and ENS domains without needing to give away any private identifiers to third parties, including phone numbers, names, and residential addresses.
The topic of private user information has been a significantly sour spot for Shopify in the past. In April 2022, a group of discontented users filed a class-action lawsuit against the company and hardware wallet provider Ledger about a huge leak of user data in 2020.
ENS Labs community advocate @sadaf.eth mentioned that the SIWE incorporation with Shopify through Twitter on February 9 and connected to developer documents explained how to develop the tool into the Shopify stores, mostly to the delight of some from the Ethereum community.

The document reads:
Buy Bitcoin Now“The statementGenerator prop allows you to customize the statement displayed in a Sign-In with Ethereum message. The function receives the address of the wallet that has connected, allowing you to expand and customize your message statements to better suit your brand.”
At the current stage, once a merchant hooks up the SIWE component feature on Shopify wallet connect, it seems that the users can click a “sign-in with Ethereum” button to link their addresses through SIWE’s partnered intermediaries like Fortmatic, Coinbase, Portis, WalletConnect, and Torus.
