According to Oxfam, one in five people int he UK are living below the poverty line and that equates to over 13 million people.
The Joseph Rowntree foundation recently released data showing how much poverty costs the UK every year. Spending on povery amounts to an estimated £78 billion, higher than industry, agriculture, employment and transport combined.
This chart shows the cost of poverty compared to public spending in the UK in 2016-17.
