This year, the Obama administration has requested Congress allocate $37.9 billion to foreign assistance funding.
Even though the final appropriation could differ significantly from the requested amount, the majority of it is set to go to governments in the Middle East. The president requested the largest amount for Israel, $3.1 billion. According to the U.S. government, this funding is distributed for strategic, economic and moral reasons and especially to support global peace, security, and development efforts, as well as providing humanitarian relief during times of crisis.
This chart shows planned US government foreign assistance funding in 2016.
