The creator contract beta release has already been tested by users, with up to 84 contracts deployed and nonfungible tokens (NFTs) minted so far.
Based on a February 16 Twitter post, eBay’s nonfungible tokens (NFT) marketplace KnownOrigin is set to introduce creator smart contracts for its users and artists. With the new contract, artists can split earnings and earn royalties as co-creators. As highlighted by KnownOrigin, users have been extensively testing its Creator Contract beta release for the last several weeks, with 84 contracts this far deployed and 250 editions of NFTs minted.
From February 24 onwards, all the approved creators and developers on KnownOrigin can deploy and mint work on their contracts for public release. The deployment will not need coding knowledge.
In June 2022, KnownOrigin was purchased by eBay for an amount that was not revealed. Based on its co-founder David Moore, the Ethereum (ETH) based platform looks to:
“Empower creators and collectors by giving them the ability to showcase, sell and collect unique, authenticated digital items.”
eBay has supported NFT listings on its direct marketplace since May 2021. Nonetheless, the firm has not integrated blockchain technology to support transfers or crypto-based sales on its platform. During an airdrop in May 2022, users needed to use in-platform messaging or email to get their NFTs outside of the platform. eBay does not now support listings soliciting payments or transfers in cryptos.
