America: What Did Confucius Mean?

Hello from China!

After listening to Winston Churchill, Ronald Reagan, Abraham Lincoln, Thomas Jefferson, and George Washington, let’s listen to Confucius, shall we?

Confucius was China’s premier philosopher 25 centuries ago, who is still relevant today. I admire him tremendously and have frequently quoted him in my writings. I think his teachings can be very beneficial to America, which is so deeply in trouble, both fiscally and politically, that there is no easy way out …

I have taken 10 quotes by Confucius from Brainy Quote, and added my own interpretations for your perusal.

  1. “The more man meditates upon good thoughts, the better will be his world and the world at large”

    • He meant: America: read Frank Li’s books and think.

  2. “An oppressive government is more to be feared than a tiger.”

    • He meant: America, a small and limited government is the way to go!

  3. “In a country well governed, poverty is something to be ashamed of. In a country badly governed, wealth is something to be ashamed of.”

    • He meant: President Obama, stop the class warfare!

  4. “Instead of being concerned that you have no office, be concerned to think how you may fit yourself for office. Instead of being concerned that you are not known, seek to be worthy of being known”

    • He meant: America: stop the career politicians!

  5. “A superior man is modest in his speech, but exceeds in his actions.”

    • He meant: President Obama, you are doing exactly the opposite! It’s time to govern (or do), not campaign (or talk)!

  6. “I hear and I forget. I see and I remember. I do and I understand.”

    • He meant: Experience matters to everybody from an ordinary citizen to the American President. America must raise the statutory requirements for the American Presidency, such as a minimum age to 55 (from 35) and only after having served as a state governor for one full term, at least.

  7. “The strength of a nation derives from the integrity of the home.”

    • He meant: Why are there so many single-parent families in America? Is this what LBJ meant by a Great Society?

  8. “Our greatest glory is not in never falling, but in rising every time we fall.”

    • He meant: America, it’s time to rise again, by fixing your big problems at home first (The U.S. vs. Russia: JFK vs. Khrushchev, again?)!

  9. “Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life.”

    • He meant: read: America: A Nation of Self-Made Men (and Women)!

  10. “You cannot open a book without learning something.”

    • He meant: Read Frank Li’s books: “Saving America, Chinese Style” and “The GOP Bible for 2016”!
