Yesterday marked the 50th anniversary of President John F. Kennedy’s assassination in Dallas, Texas. The 35th President of the United States is still widely admired today for his youthful endeavour, his quest to put an American on the moon and his leadership through the dark days of the Cuban Missile Crisis.

In fact, JFK is still remembered as the nation’s top modern president – 74 percent of Americans consider him outstanding. He also has the highest approval ratings for any U.S. president in history with an average of 70 percent.

50 years since the young president was felled by a sniper’s bullet in Dealy Plaza, debate still rages about the circumstances of his assassination. Most Americans believe JFK was killed in a conspiracy. Out of these, 13 percent think the Mafia or organised crime was involved. Another 13 percent blame the U.S. government. 7 percent think it was the CIA while 5 percent blame former Cuban leader Fidel Castro.
