Econintersect: Ads placed on the LSE (London Stock Exchange) website by a third party contained malware which created a number of different problems for users. Among the difficulties were flurries of uncontrollable pop-ups, fake virus alerts and real trojan viruses. One sucurity expert investigating the site claims to have had his computer disabled by malware on the LSE site. The site has reportedly had as amany as 363 pages (out of a total 1112) infected for as much as the past 90 days. On Monday (February 28) the LSE said their site was now safe.
Many websites use third party sources for supplying ads. A problem for such websites is that when infected items are palce on the site, affected users end up blaming the web site and not the ad purveyor.
