Electric vehicles from Tesla Inc (TSLA.O) and other brands were among the least reliable vehicles in the United States, Consumer Reports magazine’s annual reliability survey showed on Tuesday.
Although EVs and full-size pick-up trucks relish the strongest demand in the market, they are the “most problematic”, the nonprofit organization that reviews products and services said. The report indicated a greater interest in hybrid vehicles, with 36% of potential buyers considering one for their next car or truck purchase.
Tesla, the world’s most valuable automaker, rose by four spots and was listed 19th out of the 24 brands. The EV bellwether continues to have problems with steering/suspension, body hardware, paint and trim, and climate system on its models, the report said.
Last month, the Elon Musk-run company said it expected to fall short of its vehicle delivery target this year and mentioned logistics challenges. The highest-ranked brands in the survey were Toyota and Lexus, and seven of the ten top-scoring brands were Korean and Japanese.

The magazine’s annual survey of new vehicle reliability projects which vehicles will give owners fewer or more troubles compared to their competitors, based on data gathered. Its scorecard is instrumental among consumers and industry executives.
