This week Niall Ferguson addresses the complex issues associated with the COVID-19 pandemic in a talk/interview presented to the Marshall Society at Cambridge University. Prof Ferguson has been a life-long student of pandemics and has profound perspectives from history for the current experience. The title of his presentation is “Twin Pandemics, Pathogenic and Political: Historical Perspectives on 2020-21”.

This program is loosely in the form of an interview conducted by host George Moran. I say loosely because George appears only briefly between lengthy discussions by Prof. Ferguson. The program was conducted virtually via Zoom on 10 February 2021.
From Wikipedia:
Niall Campbell Ferguson (/ˈniːl/; born 18 April 1964)[1] is a Scottish historian and the Milbank Family Senior Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University.[2] Previously, he was a professor at Harvard University, the London School of Economics and New York University, visiting professor at New College of the Humanities and senior research fellow at Jesus College, Oxford.
Ferguson writes and lectures on international history, economic and financial history and British and American imperialism.[3] He is known for his positive views concerning the British Empire.[4] He once ironically called himself “a fully paid-up member of the neo-imperialist gang” following the 2003 invasion of Iraq.[5]
Ferguson has been a contributing editor for Bloomberg Television[6] and a columnist for Newsweek. He began writing a twice-a-month column for Bloomberg Opinion in June 2020.[7]
Ferguson has written and presented numerous television documentary series, including The Ascent of Money, which won an International Emmy award for Best Documentary in 2009.[8] In 2004, he was named as one of TIME magazine’s 100 most influential people in the world.[9]
The video is 59 minutes long. After the first approximately 27 minutes, Prof. Ferguson responds to several questions submitted by the virtual audience.
Note: At times my video streaming was disrupted but the audio track was clear throughout.
