Employment figures published by Eurostat today reveal the extent to which the coronavirus pandemic has affected the jobs across the continent as of Q2. As this infographic shows, Estonia is one of the hardest hit countries in this regard – recording a fall of almost 4 percentage points compared to Q4 2019. Overall the European Union saw a drop of 1.1 points, with Germany and Malta bringing up the average slightly with growth of 0.1 and 0.8 percentage points, respectively.
Editor’s note: If US data were included on the graphic, the numbers would be larger than those shown. The change in employment for all adults from end of 4Q 2019 to 2Q 2020 would be -7.3% (measured to April) or -4.9% (meassured to June). The total unemployment change reported has been changed by a 65% “in the labor force” adjustment. Also the US data includes data from 16-19 year-olds and those over 65.
