Covid-19 has been a total disaster in America. Yet, instead of focusing on managing it better from now on, the Trump administration has been escalating the blame game against China, for no purpose other than fooling enough Americans to vote for him this November!

In this post, I present three videos for public education:

  1. The 1918 Spanish Flu – A Conspiracy of Silence.
  2. Covid-19 in China, South-Korea, Taiwan and Japan.
  3. Coronavirus: America’s Reckoning.

1. The 1918 Spanish Flu – A Conspiracy of Silence

This is by far the worst pandemic in [modern] history. It actually started in the U.S. (Kansas). Yet, no country has [officially] blamed the U.S. for it!

4. Covid-19’s origin?

It is important to know Covid-19’s origin, but it should not be the focus of the Trump administration. Two informative readings:

  1. China backs WHO investigating origin of Covid-19, hits out at US ‘politicising issue’.
  2. France Discovers Undiagnosed Coronavirus Patient From Last-Year. Below is an excerpt.

A patient hospitalized with flu-like symptoms at the end of December in France turned out to have had Covid-19, a finding that suggests the new coronavirus was spreading there at least a month earlier than official records show.

The 42-year-old fishmonger showed up at a hospital near Paris on Dec. 27 with a cough, headache and fever and was treated with antibiotics and discharged after two days. Doctors found he had Covid-19 by retroactively testing his respiratory samples along with those from a handful of hospitalized patients, describing their work in a case report.

5. Discussion

In a globalized world like ours, a virus anywhere is a virus everywhere. While worldwide efforts must be made consistently to prevent an outbreak from happening, it is the ability to handle an outbreak (e.g. preventing it from becoming a pandemic) that differentiates a great country from an average one.

From this viewpoint, America has failed miserably (Top economist: US coronavirus response is like ‘third world’ country). The image below is worth more than 1,000 words.

Two big lessons for America:

  1. The government matters.
  2. American government is not up to the challenge, especially when compared with those in East Asia.

Specifically, below is a list of big problems for America:

  1. President Trump: Nothing is more important than his own re-election bid! For more, read: Covid-19: America vs. Its President.
  2. Politics: Almost everything is politicized, at all levels. For more, read: Covid-19: Have We Over-Reacted?
  3. Healthcare: Some 30 million Americans lost their jobs, together with their health insurance, mostly.
  4. Inequality: A high percent of minorities died of Covid-19.

America, reform our failing political system, as I have suggested (American Democracy – Why is it failing & how to fix it?), or become a fiddle, second to China!

6. Closing

President Trump serves, throughout his first-term, for one paramount purpose: getting re-elected ad nauseam.

He will further escalate his blame game against China in the coming days, weeks, and months, not to get anything from China, but as a way to fool enough Americans to vote for him this November!
