World leaders have gathered at the World Holocaust Forum at Jerusalem’s Yad Vashem Memorial where the recent rise of anti-Semitism across Europe will be a key point of discussion. The event marks the 75th anniversary of the Red Army liberating Auschwitz, the most notorious Nazi death camp, where 1.1 million people died, 960,000 of whom were Jews. Soviet soldiers arrived at Auschwitz on 27 January 1945 at 15:00 where they were left shocked by the condition of the remaining prisoners in the complex.

Ahead of the commemoration, the Pew Research Center published the results of a poll gauging levels of awareness about the Holocaust in the United States. The following infographic shows public responses to two of its core questions with less than half of those polled correctly answering that approximately six million Jews died during the Holocaust. When asked when it happened, 69 percent of respondents correctly answered that it occurred between 1930 and 1950.
