Up until the end of September around 53 percent of Americans opposed impeachment or said that impeachment proceedings should not be started in Congress. That shifted in early October, with a high of 50.3 percent of Americans supporting impeachment on Oct 14. Since then, the margin between both positions has grown narrower again.
According to FiveThirtyEight, support for impeachment has significantly grown among Democrats and Independents in the abovementioned timeframe – upwards of ten percentage points. Among Republicans it has it fallen, but less significantly so: from 15 percent to currently 9 percent.
Included in the poll averages are surveys by YouGov, Ipsos, Quinnipiac, Morning Consult, Emerson College and more.
