- Hong Kong shares drop close to 3% amid disruptions due to a general strike, lead Asian stocks lower (CNBC) Asian markets also traded lower amid wider concerns over the trade dispute between Beijing and Washington. The U.S. dollar index was lower at 97.903 after seeing levels above 98.7 last week. Brent crude futures contract fell 1.52% to $60.95 per barrel. U.S. crude futures also fell 1.56% to $54.79 per barrel. Spot gold was up 0.8% at $1,451.37 per ounce as of 0405 GMT, after hitting its highest since May 2013 at $1,455.26. At around 03:40 a.m. ET, the yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note, which moves inversely to price, was lower at around 1.7667%, while the yield on the 30-year Treasury bond was also lower at around 2.3102%. Yields were near 3-year lows.
