The 2018 Winter Olympics are over. I enjoyed watching it on TV. How about you?

I am big on the Olympics, as it reflects the best of mankind: peace and competitiveness. The 2008 Beijing Olympics got me into writing on politics (My American Dream Has Come True). Since then, I have published on every Olympics as follows:
- 2012: Swimming, Olympics, and More and Olympics, Economies, and The Next American President.
- 2014: The 2014 Sochi Olympics.
- 2016: Rio Olympics 2016 and More.
This one should be no exception. I will briefly touch upon five subjects:
- South Korea
- Norway
- The U.S.
- Russia
- China.
1. South Korea
Congratulations to South Korea for hosting the 2018 Winter Olympics with great success!

2. Norway
Congratulations to Norway for winning the medal count!
2018 Olympics | Gold | Silver | Bronze | Total |
Norway | 14 | 14 | 11 | 39 |
Russia | 2 | 6 | 9 | 17 |
The U.S. | 9 | 8 | 6 | 23 |
China | 1 | 6 | 2 | 9 |
2014 Olympics | Gold | Silver | Bronze | Total |
Norway | 11 | 5 | 10 | 26 |
Russia | 13 | 11 | 9 | 33 |
The U.S. | 9 | 7 | 12 | 28 |
China | 3 | 4 | 2 | 9 |
Still wondering why President Trump likes to have more immigrants from Norway? It’s for the Winter Olympics, most likely! Unfortunately for the President, here is the bad news: Norwegian: No thank you, President Trump.
3. The U.S.
Congratulations to Team USA for yet another great show! Let me highlight three stories:
- Women’s ice hockey.
- Men’s curling.
- Mirai Nagasu.
3.1 Women’s ice hockey
To me, this was the best part for the U.S. – The U.S. beat Canada, ending a 20-year drought!

Yes, I am an avid fan of ice hockey, the real sport (Ice Hockey: Get Rid of the Goalie!)!
3.2 Men’s curling
Congratulations to the U.S. team for winning the gold medal!

I never like curling for one simple reason: it does not look like a real sport, totally opposite to ice hockey! The image of the U.S. team proves that: none of them looks reasonably athletic!
As a competitive dancer who works out every day for the best shape possible, I have great respect for athleticism and real sports. Curling is not one of them!
3.3 Mirai Nagasu
As a big Olympic fan and an American, I must tell her story, as highlighted by the image below.

For more on what happened to her in 2014, read: The 2014 Sochi Olympics.
4. Russia
What a shame – Team Russia was barred this time (Russia’s Olympic team barred from 2018 Winter Games)! I thought Russia would have boycotted the games, but they did not.
What was the best part for Russia? Women figure skating! They are so much above everybody else!

5. China
Team China performed poorly, with only nine medals in total, the same as 2014. Expect China, the next host, to double it in 2022!

6. Closing
The 2018 Winter Olympics were a huge success, both for the Olympic movement and for South Korea. Congratulations to both of them!
I look forward to the next one: Beijing 2022!
