Thanks to the successful launch of the enhanced PlayStation 4 Pro, Sony’s current generation video game console just hit a major milestone.
The company announced on Wednesday that the PS4 just passed 50 million units in global sales to end users after “the best Black Friday week in the history of PlayStation“. The PlayStation 4 had passed the 40 million mark in late May, meaning that Sony managed to sell 10 million units in little more than half a year.
The PlayStation 4 is now the seventh best-selling home console of all time, trailing all of its predecessors by a significant margin. It may end up catching the PlayStation 3 which sold 86 million over its lifetime, but it’s unlikely the PS4 will replicate the success of the original PlayStation and its successor, both having sold more than 100 million units worldwide.
This chart shows lifetime sales of the best-selling home video game consoles of all time.
