Looking back at the attempted Turkish coup in July, how many coup attempts generally succeed and how many fail?
Over the past couple of years at least, the vast majority of coup attempts have ended in a similar fashion to the one in Turkey: failure. Some notable ones did succeed, however, primarily in Africa. These include Egypt in 2011 (and again 2013), as well as Mali and Guinea-Bissau in 2012.
This chart shows coup d’état and coup attempts around the world since 2011 (up to summer 2016).
