Even though Silicon Valley offers America’s most lucrative salaries, do wages there really go that far considering the region’s high cost of living?

According to Pew Research, wages in San Jose-Sunnyvale-Santa Clara (which covers Silicon Valley) have the strongest purchasing power of any U.S. metropolitan area. Weekly average wages there amount to $1,706, significantly higher than second-placed California-Lexington Park (Maryland) $1,277. Ocean City in New Jersey has the very opposite end of the scale with the nation’s lowest adjusted wage of just $590.
This chart shows average weekly wages in Q3 2015 by meto area (adjusted by regional price parities).
