Russia has recently sent her only remaining aircraft carrier “Admiral Kuznetsov“ through the English Channel and then onwards in to the Mediterranean towards the Syrian coast.

The ageing 55,000-ton ship, which is powered by steam turbines, was built in the mid-eighties during the Cold War.
Russia’s then rival, the United States, today has more aircraft carriers in active service than the remaining navies of the world combined. The British Royal Navy has no carriers in service today, but is building two ships to be commissioned in the next two years.
