America: Stop Islam Bashing!

It is very disheartening to view Islam bashing currently taking place world-wide, especially in America. It is totally stupid and it is utterly dangerous! Note that I am non-religious and I am adamantly opposed to mixing church and state.

1. Islam bashing is totally stupid!

Stop blaming Islam for ISIS! Two main analogies:

1. America did not blame Christianity for the KKK!
2. ISIS has been using Islam as a cover, just like President George W. Bush used the 9/11 attack as a cover for the Iraq War! For more, read: 9/11 Attack vs. Pearl Harbor Attack.

2. Islam bashing is utterly dangerous!

Here is an excerpt from Muslim Population in U.S. to Double by 2050, Study Shows – Breitbart:

Muslims currently make up approximately 0.9% of the U.S. adult population, or 1.8 million Muslim adults. If children are included, the Muslim population in the United States totals 2.75 million Muslims in the country, the majority of whom (63%) are immigrants.

As the fastest-growing religion in America, by the year 2050, the number of Muslims is projected to more than double, surpassing Judaism as the country’s second-largest religious group after Christianity. Those identifying with Islam are projected to comprise 2.1% of the U.S. population.

Do we really want to turn those Muslim Americans, including more than 5,000 Muslims serving in U.S. Military, into enemies?

3. Islam bashing vs. slavery

In a nutshell, in America, Islam bashing today is no different from slavery 240 years ago, which is the worst form of race bashing (or racism)! The table below offers a simple comparison.

It took us a civil war (American Civil War) to address the slavery issue, without a satisfactory conclusion yet. It would be foolhardy to start a new one over religion, be it Islam or Buddhism!

4. Treating Muslims: the U.K. vs. the U.S.

Here are two recent news stories to illustrate the differences between the U.K. and the U.S. in treating Muslims:

More prominently, here is a recent headline news story: London’s New Mayor Sadiq Khan Wants to ‘Educate’ Trump on Islam.

5. Discussion

Let’s focus on three big subjects:

1. Islam and terrorism
2. The 9/11 attack
3. Race and religion.

Let’s discuss them, respectively …

5.1 Islam and terrorism

Many Americans link Islam with terrorism, without knowing, or acknowledging, the simple truth that America has actually been the worst “terror country†in the world since the end of WWII. Two facts: since 1946,

1. America is the only country that has had at least one foreign war for every decade!
2. More foreigners, civilian and military combined, have been killed by America than by any other country, with the worst being the Vietnam War and the Iraq War! Note: some dictators (e.g. Joseph Stalin and Mao Zedong) have killed more, but of their own people, not foreigners.

As for ISIS, let’s be absolutely clear: Presidents George W. Bush and Obama created it in the first place! Specifically,

1. President Bush recklessly launched the Iraq War on March 20, 2003, at least partially for the sake of his own re-election in 2004, destroying the delicate balance in that region!
2. President Obama, shortly upon taking office, announced a troop withdrawal timetable and followed through by recklessly withdrawing all American troops from Iraq by December 2011, just in time for his re-election in 2012! Consequently, the fragile new balance in Iraq, reinstated by the Bush administration, was forfeit!

As a result of military interventions by Presidents Bush and Obama, not only was ISIS born, it has thrived throughout the entire region!

Furthermore, the current refugee crisis in the Mideast and Europe is a direct result of the Iraq War, followed by our reckless foreign policy (America’s Post-WWII Foreign Policy)! Therefore, we have a moral obligation to help!

Now, why so much Islam bashing in America today? It’s popular and it’s inconsequential (unlike black bashing, for example)!

There are at least two bad cultures in America:

1. America: A Culture of War.
2. A culture of bashing, from Islam, to Mexico, to China, to Russian President Putin …

It’s time to fix both of them!

5.2 The 9/11 attack

It is a huge deal in America, but very misunderstood, unfortunately. I have published extensively on the 9/11 attack. Here is a summary:

1. It was a result of our reckless foreign policy, especially after 1991, when the Cold War ended. For more, read: America’s Post-WWII Foreign Policy.

5.3 Race and religion

Race and religion are two of the biggest issues in humanity. America is uniquely challenged by both, because of the multicultural nature of our country. I have also published extensively on this subject. Two informative readings:

Let me repeat and emphasize: it took us a civil war (American Civil War) to address the slavery issue, without a satisfactory conclusion yet, as illustrated by the photo below. It would be foolhardy to start a new one over religion, be it Islam or Buddhism!
