In my last post (Ted Cruz: Give Up, Just Give Up!), I suggested that Ted Cruz should concede the 2016 race to Donald Trump. In this post, I will demonstrate that Trump is actually more conservative than Cruz, although Cruz has been running as a conservative against Trump …
1. What is American conservatism?
Here is an excerpt from Wikipedia – Conservatism in the United States:
Historically, the central themes in American conservatism have included respect for American traditions, support of Judeo-Christian values, anti-Communism, advocacy of American exceptionalism and a defense of their view of Western civilization from perceived threats posed by feminism, cultural Marxism, moral relativism, multiculturalism, and liberal internationalism. Liberty is a core value, with a particular emphasis on strengthening the free market, and opposition to high taxes and government or labor union encroachment on the entrepreneur.[1]
2. American conservatism – A simple definition
For all practical purposes, let’s simplify the Wikipedia definition of American conservatism to three big points as follows:
- Limited government.
- Strong in defense.
- Family values.
Now, let me compare Trump with Cruz in these three points one by one.
3. Trump vs. Cruz: #1 – limited government
Donald Trump is a maker, having spent his entire career in the private sector! In contrast, Ted Cruz is a taker, having spent his entire career on the tax-payers’ dime!
As an entrepreneur, Trump thoroughly understands the beauty and efficacy of “the free market,” and is professionally opposed “to high taxes and government or labor union encroachment on the entrepreneur!”
Cruz may have been a proponent of enabling the free market by advocating for lower taxes and fewer regulations. However, he has no major achievements that are worth mentioning as qualifying him for the Presidency!
Several of Trump’s businesses have indeed filed bankruptcy. When you have many business enterprises like Trump does, not all will succeed and some failure is an inevitable part of success in business!
Bottom line: a successful businessman like Trump has far more successes than failures! In fact, $10 billion worth!
Most importantly, Trump’s [mostly] self-funding for Presidency is not only unprecedented and noble, but also the best evidence of his success! Why would anyone spend so much (of his own money) to become President? He is obviously deeply troubled by the direction we are heading and feels he can correct our course.
4. Trump vs. Cruz: #2 – strong in defense
Both Trump and Cruz are for strong defense!
Unfortunately, our defense industry has been so out-of-control, thanks to the Military-Industrial Complex, that it is now a huge existential threat to America, second only to socialism/communism! Two informative readings:
Bottom line: Trump has shown some promising signs to possibly fix the MIC (e.g. Donald Trump reveals his isolationist foreign-policy instincts), while Cruz has no clue!
5. Trump vs. Cruz: #3 – family values
Trump does have two failed marriages, but he has obviously learned from them (Donald Trump: My bad marriages don’t count because ‘I wasn’t President of the United-States’). Very importantly, I do not believe Trump has many dark secrets, thanks to his celebrity status over the decades – It’s difficult to hide transgressions when you are in the public spotlight all the time!
In contrast, there are many troubling rumors about Cruz’s secret life (e.g. Ted Cruz’ Cheating Scandal: Bombshell Allegations He’s In DC Madam’s Black Book). It’s hard to ignore them, especially given the weird video below – Watch and judge for yourself!
6. Discussion
In today’s America, the word “conservative” not only is overused and misused, but also carries a negative connotation for hypocrisy! So let me repeat (from Ted Cruz: Give Up, Just Give Up!):
Having suggested carpet-bombing ISIS, Cruz is, by definition, not a true conservative!
As is known to all, Trump is neither a conservative per se nor a liberal obviously! Instead, he is a mad-as-hell American like most of us, which is an open secret behind the huge success of his 2016 campaign!
7. Closing
Donald Trump is not only much better prepared for the Presidency than Ted Cruz, but also actually more conservative than Ted Cruz! Case made?
