Stupid Voters

Here is a news story late last year: MIT professor Jonathan Gruber apologizes for remark on voters.

Here is an excerpt:

Jonathan Gruber, the MIT economist who once said passing President Obama’s health law depended on “the stupidity of the American voter,” endured a humiliating four-hour congressional hearing on Tuesday and apologized for remarks that he acknowledged were demeaning.

Why was it such a big deal for Professor Gruber to call voters stupid?

Winston Churchill famously did it long ago!

The reason it was such a big deal is that it’s politically incorrect to say so. But, what’s the truth – Are voters truly stupid? Sadly, the answer is a resounding “yes”!

Here is an excerpt from a recent survey (Americans know surprisingly little about their government, survey finds):

1. While little more than a third of respondents (36 percent) could name all three branches of the U.S. government, just as many (35 percent) could not name a single one.
2. Just over a quarter of Americans (27 percent) know it takes a two-thirds vote of the House and Senate to override a presidential veto.
3. One in five Americans (21 percent) incorrectly think that a 5-4 Supreme Court decision is sent back to Congress for reconsideration.

In a competitive world like ours, ignorant folks are unlikely to thrive. As a result, most of them end up on the far left, demanding (and receiving) hand-outs by voting for Democrats, if they vote at all. For more, read: The Democratic Party is the Party of New Slavery!

What about the 20% on the far right? Many of them are so stupid that they can’t even spell the word peace! For example, they refuse to see the obvious: despite the fact that our military budget is more than the next 16 biggest spending countries combined, they still believe our military is for self-defense and they just want America to keep spending more on our military!

An incredibly dumb electorate, isn’t it? Can democracy truly work with such a high percentage of stupid voters? My answer is a resounding “no”!

By the way, there is at least an equally high percentage of stupid Chinese in China. But they do not matter politically, because they can’t vote!

Democracy (i.e. one person, one vote) has never actually worked anywhere in the world throughout human history, from Ancient Greece to Modern America. Democracy appears to have worked in America because of our superb capitalism. It does not work in America anymore, because other countries (e.g. China) have embraced capitalism, while we are becoming more and more communistic! In other words, saying democracy works in America today is like saying “communism works” in 1960. Yes, communism appeared to be working then, but it eventually collapsed.
