Twitter owner Elon Musk said on Friday that he did not play a part in restoring rapper Kanye West’s account, which was locked by the micro-blogging site earlier in October for posting anti-Semitic comments.
The billionaire said Twitter had reinstated the account of the rapper Kanye West, now known as Ye, prior to the conclusion of the social media platform’s $44 billion acquisition late on Thursday. “They did not consult with or inform me,” Musk said in a tweet.
Ye, who has more than 30 million followers on Twitter, has attracted controversy in recent months by publicly terminating major corporate deals and making outbursts on social media against other celebrities.
On October 8, Musk tweeted “Welcome back to Twitter, my friend!” when Ye (Kanye West) posted on Twitter for the first time in two years after his Instagram account was blocked for anti-Semitic posts. Twitter later suspended his account and deleted one of his posts.
Musk assumed ownership of Twitter with brutal efficiency on Thursday, dismissing top executives but offering little clarity over how he will accomplish the ambitions he has indicated for the influential social media platform.
Buy Crypto NowMusk, however, said on Friday that Twitter will be creating a content moderation council with “widely diverse viewpoints”.
“No major content decisions or account reinstatements will happen before that council convenes,” he added.
Earlier this month, Ye agreed in general to acquire Parler, the social media platform well-liked among U.S. conservatives.
