Fiscal Cliff, Cuisinart, and an Acrid Smell of Deceit

Thoughts for Friday, December 14, 2012

We financial analysts are relatively certain that when a ‘fiscal cliff’ compromise is reached it will be another political ‘ kick the can down the road‘ exercise in futility – AGAIN!

It has been estimated that any ‘compromise’ had to be completed by this Friday because of the time it takes to write legislation into law. Well that hasn’t happened, and the Holiday recess starts Monday the 17th – and unless the USA President keeps everyone from going home, the falling off the cliff is a relatively assured thing.

What really should happen is that we need to go over the “Cliff” and be done with it. Sure, sure, I know that all hell will break loose with the Dems blaming the GOP and the GOP pointing fingers at the Dems and the stock market teetering on a massive collapse. But we need to ‘reset’ the game plan where this ridiculous speeding is curtailed and the debt issues addressed.

This so-called ‘fiscal cliff’ is not so much a current problem as it has to do with 100 years of political profligacy and self-indulgence. The voting public around the World are misguided, misinformed, ignorant and ever ready to accept the promise of ice cream for everyone. When the big lies are spouted in 15 second sound bites the idiot crowds rise and celebrate with abandon. All is good, all is great and everyone can go home now as they await the results of a multi trillion game of chicken on the telly.

Some think we are indeed going to go over the cliff, and most believe that all hell will break loose. I think:

  • the USA will go over the cliff,
  • Mr. Market will not be very happy and will act like a spoiled child who does not get his toy,
  • and if you are invested, you are not going to be very happy.

Why do we need to go over the ‘cliff’?

One is that “until we experience the cliff, we will not understand what it really means.” writes David Kotok. He goes on to say, I would like to see my fellow citizens get really angry with Washington and throw out some of the bums of both parties.

The citizenry needs to become really scared, and take a hard look at lies before them. This angry voting block should, in all countries, not just the US, get fighting mad and wake up to the outrageous broken political systems around the World.

Kotok continues, “The political morons generalize in their pronouncements because they fear giving us real details.” Day after day all we hear are sound-bites’ of political garbage that has been thrown into a Cuisinart then served warm, tasteless and with a distinct acrid smell of deceit and untruthfulness. And yet the populace goes on with their daily lives with their heads stuck up their butts, obviously not hearing a thing but used to the smell.

David Kotok on Why We Need to Go Over the Cliff

When might an individual with serious personal problems decide to make necessary change in his life? When they reach the depths of hell and decide “it does not need to be this way and it won’t any longer.”

How about a nation? Is there any doubt our nation faces enormous problems, fiscal and otherwise? The manner in which we confront these problems will have a profound impact on our nation for generations. Will Washington swerve and avoid the fiscal cliff that some believe will lead us into a hellacious recession or are we better off actually experiencing that so as to finally wake up and make the necessary change? Are we even capable?

David Kotok of Cumberland [Advisers] provides real ‘sense on cents’ on this topic in response to a question posed to him, “what would you like see happen with the fiscal cliff?”

So, my personal proposal is to have a major fight and a resulting stalemate that persists until there is real pain in the land. I would like to see my fellow citizens get really angry with Washington and set aside their partisan differences and then throw out some of the bums of both parties.

I would like to see us get mad enough and scared enough and clear enough about what’s really happening to us, that we realize we have to pull together to claw our way back from the cliff and get this country on stable ground.

Are you mad enough yet? . . . What would you like to see happen with the impending fiscal cliff?

I would like to see the folks that voted for these idiots decide that they have had enough of this political crap rise up and do something like outvote the stupids. All these politicians do is occasionally pull their heads out of their bums to show off their egos and play head games.
