Where are the world’s shark attack hotspots?
The Florida Museum of Natural History’s Shark Attack File put together a list of cases it recorded throughout history and Australia comes first in terms of fatalities. There have been 153 fatal attacks down under since records began, ahead of Africa’s 94.
Indeed, shark attacks usually receive widespread news coverage because they are such a rare occurrence.The continental USA has seen over 1,000 attacks but only 35 of them have proven fatal. 11 people died from shark attacks between 1990 and 2006. During the same timeframe, 16 people died from falling into holes on beaches.
