Econintersect: The polls closed in Scotland at 10 pm local time (5 pm New York time) and a long night of counting ballots is underway. With last minute opinion polls indicating a result within the margin of error in some cases and just barely favoring a “No” vote (rejecting independence for Scotland) in other cases the result is considered to be much in doubt. Public opinion had moved from over 60% rejecting independence just over a month ago to approximately a dead heat in the last 7-10 days.
