Retiring today is harder than ever. According to a survey conducted by the Federal Reserve, many American households are not well prepared for retirement.
Overall, 31 percent of non-retired respondents indicated they have no retirement/pension savings. Perhaps unsurprisingly, half of people aged 18-29 haven’t put away a cent for retirement while 28 percent of those aged between 30 and 44 haven’t thought about the financial situation after they finish work. Most alarmingly, over 15 percent of Americans aged over 60 said they have no pension savings at all and will more than likely have to work full or part-time during their retirement years.
This chart shows the percentage of Americans who have no retirement savings/pensions by age group.
