Since the beginning of the year, Bulgarian and Romanian citizens have been able to work in the United Kingdom without restrictions.
In late 2013, the Daily Mail claimed job seekers from those countries would arrive in massive numbers once granted their newfound free movement across the EU.
The Office for National Statistics has now released figures proving that story wrong – the number of Bulgarians and Romanians working in the United Kingdom has actually fallen by 3,000 since the end of 2013. In addition, most of the jobs created over the past 12 months have actually gone to UK nationals.
