Nintendo reported the results for its full fiscal year last week and things are looking pretty awful.
In the 12 months ending March 31, Nintendo sold less than 3 million units of the Wii U, down from the lackluster 3.5 million units the company moved in the console’s launch year. For the ongoing fiscal year (ending in March 2015), Nintendo is expecting to sell 3.6 million units, indicating that the company has little hopes for the console, even though blockbuster software titles such as Mario Kart are finally arriving on the Wii U this year.
Our chart shows that the Wii U is well on track to become the worst-selling home console Nintendo has ever made. Thus far, Nintendo managed to move 6.2 million units of the Wii U and it seems increasingly unlikely for it to reach the GameCube’s lifetime total of 21.7 million units.
