Pay TV adoption continues to rise across the globe. By the end of 2012, the number of Pay TV households had reached 772 million, up from 585 million in 2008. Global Pay TV penetration grew to 53 percent in 2012, up from 44 percent in 2008.
With 233 million Pay TV households, China is the largest Pay TV market in the world by a wide margin. India and the United States are ranked second and third with 117 and 100 million Pay TV households, respectively. In total, the Top 3 markets are home to almost 60 percent of global Pay TV households, indicating their immense size.
In terms of Pay TV penetration, the Netherlands, Denmark and Belgium lead the global ranking with penetration rates above 95 percent. The United States just make the Top 10, while China and India aren’t to be found in the Top 10.
