Sadly, the police interfered. They tear-gased demonstrators, and ring-fenced a thousand of them because they were supposedly dangerous. Afterwards the police presented four flagpoles and some balloons filled with paint as evidence. Such is the state of civil liberty in Germany. And this is not a left-wing conspiracy: even the conservative press, like FAZ, reports that the police response was out of proportion. Russia Today has some video footage:
