Econintersect: In terms of media usage, China is becoming a modern nation at a very quick pace. This is indicated by a statistic released in the recent presentation “Internet Trends”, by Marry Meekers and Liang Wu. Digital media occupies 55% of Chinese time devoted to all forms of media – in the U.S. the total is only 38%.
Mobile is far more popular in China (22% of media time) while the U.S. is way down at 12%. The Chinese also spend a greater percentage of media time on the internet. In the U.S. radio and TV have more than 50% greater usage than in China.

China now has more than half a billion internet users. China internet usage is still less on a per capita basis than the U.S. (market penetration 42% vs 78% for the U.S.), but the growth rate for China is more than 3X that for the U.S.
The two countries combine for 1/3 of global internet usage.
