The top of today’s reading list has three articles from Project Syndicate discussing the prospects for interest rates with varying degrees of logic …….. and the last article is by Kenneth Rogoff discussing the prospects for Mexico.
- The Long Mystery of Low Interest Rates (Kenneth Rogoff, Project Syndicate, 04 April 2013). Rogoff says the global savings glut is a puzzle. Doesn’t he understand that it exists only because it’s coupled with government deficits? The real question can’t be answered (does one cause the other and, if so, which is the cause and which is the effect?) until one recognizes that they are related by fundamental accounting.
- When Interest Rates Rise (Martin Feldstein, Project Syndicate, 30 March, 2013)
- The Real Interest-Rate Risk (Zhang Monan, Project Syndicate, 05 January 2013) A commentary spectacularly uninformed about money.
- Only a Tiny Percentage of Americans Opposed to Breaking Up Big Banks (Barry Ritholtz, The Big Picture, 05 April 2013)
- Abenomics Takes Off: Can Japan Un-Doom Itself? (Matthew O’Brien, The Atlantic, 04 April 2013)
- Thieves Use Mystery Device to Open Cars (Dianna Dilworth, AppNewser, 05 April 2013) Hat tip to Russ Huntley.
- –When, the revolution? (Rodger Malcolm Mitchell, Monetary Sovereignty) Rodger Malcolm Mitchell is a Global Economic Intersection contributor.
- Mired in financial troubles, Italian couple commits suicide (Livia Borghese. Greg Botelho and Pierre Meilhan, CNN) Hat tip to Alun Hill.
- Co-op rumour spreads panic (Cyprus Mail, 06 April 2013) Hat tip to Dan Flemming. More panic in Cyprus and other stories from the local press there.
