“The Changing Face of Mars” is the fourth installment of Blaine Baggett’s Beginnings of the Space Age documentary series chronicling the evolution of space exploration in which the JetPropulsion Lab (JPL) at Cal Tech has played a pivotal role. The JPL – produced documentary provides a mix of archival footage and interviews with the scientists and engineers who pioneered Mars exploration.
The film covers the the 15 successful Mars explorations that began with JPL’s Mariner 4 mission of 1964. In the almost half century of exploration there have been stunning successes, but also more than half the attempted mission (38 in all) have ended in failure.
