Econintersect: Virgin Galactic has opened the world’s first space port in southern New Mexico. The 120,000 square foot facility has been dedicated as “Spaceport America” in a ceremony attended by Virgin CEO Richard Branson (pictured), New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez and 800 guests. The ceremony featured a fly over by Virgin Galactic’s WhiteKnightTwo and SpaceShipTwo (pictured below). Branson’s company has sold 455 reservations at $200,000 each for early 2.5 hour flights and has $58 million in deposits from those customers.
