Apple Inc (AAPL.O) said on September 6 that it would appeal a Brazilian order that banned it from selling iPhones with no battery charger. The company pushed back on allegations that it offers an incomplete product to consumers.
According to reports, the Justice Ministry fined Apple 12.275 million reais ($2.38 million) and then ordered the American firm to cancel sales of the iPhone 12 and newer models, in addition to suspending sales of any iPhone model that does not have a charger in its packaging.
In the official order, published on Tuesday in the nation’s official gazette, the ministry insisted that the iPhone was lacking an essential feature in a “deliberate discriminatory practice against consumers.”
Authorities rejected Apple’s argument that the practice had the purpose of mitigating carbon emissions, stating that no defined evidence selling the smartphone with no charger gives any environmental protections.
Buy Crypto NowApple insisted that it would continue working with Brazilian consumer protection agency Senacon to ‘resolve their worries,’ while stating that it would contest the decision. Apple commented:
“We have already won several court rulings in Brazil on this matter and we are confident that our customers are aware of the various options for charging and connecting their devices.”
The order came just a day before Apple was expected to announce its new iPhone model.
