If we do, we will arrive at times when our planet, of which we have just one, will not be able to replenish the resources to an extent that nature can sustain life.
At the beginning of August, we have for this year already used up more natural resources than mother nature can reproduce in a year. The Global Footprint Network concludes:
“We use more ecological resources and services than nature can regenerate through overfishing, overharvesting forests, and emitting more carbon dioxide into the atmosphere than forests can sequester.,”
To put it bluntly, you can’t sugar coat this one, the way things are going, we’re living on borrowed time.
The problem is that individual consumption will have to be reined in, mostly in industrialized countries. Governments can sign 10 Paris Agreements to protect the environment and try to avert global climate change. But only when individual consumers fundamentally alter their habits could things get better. Think about it when you go out to buy the next SUV.
