My answer is Pat Sajak, the host of ABC’s “The Wheel of Fortune”!

As a matter of fact, my wife and I like this show enough that we often watch it through our dinner. It is fun for everybody involved, including the host and hostess, the game participants, and the viewers. Here are two main reasons why it’s fun:

  1. It is simple and reasonably intelligent!

  2. It hands out good stuff only (e.g. cash and exotic trips).

At the end of the show, I often sigh to my wife: “I wish I could have Pat’s job.”

Wouldn’t it be nice if we all could have Pat’s job? It’s easy, it’s well paid, and it has good job security.

Now, do you realize that many of our politicians (e.g. members of Congress) can match with Pat in job appeal?

Here’s how:

  1. It’s easy: Keep handing out good stuff to make some people happy (in exchange for their votes), despite the fact that our national debt is fast approaching $17T!

  2. It’s well paid, by any standards, for a public servant. They get full retirement benefits and lifetime healthcare for just six years in office! Better yet, under Obamacare, their children get to attend college for free (to them) – No kidding! All at our expense for doing such a great job that our country is broke.

  3. It has good job security, especially when driven by “getting re-elected ad nauseam,” using the huge advantages an incumbent has over any challengers.

There is, however, a big difference between Pat’s job and our top politicians’ job: a for-profit company pays the former, while taxpayers foot the bills for the latter. When the politicians work for no purpose but their own re-election, nobody is looking after the country, especially its fiscal side! Congress spends and spends like there is no tomorrow! No wonder our national debt is almost $17T already, rapidly rising …

Ever heard of Congressman John Dingell (pictured below)? According to Wikipedia:

John David Dingell, Jr. (born July 8, 1926) is an American Democratic politician who has been a member of the United States House of Representatives continuously since entering Congress on December 13, 1955. On June 7, 2013 he reached 20,997 days of membership, surpassing Robert Byrd as the longest-serving member of Congress in history.[1] Dingell is a long-time member and former Chairman of the House Energy and Commerce Committee.

On June 2, 2013, Mr. Dingell was interviewed by ABC’s George Stephanopoulos for soon to be the longest serving member of Congress. When asked among the more than 25,000 votes he cast, what was the most important one he remembers, Mr. Dingell answered: “the Civil Rights act in 1964!” What an accomplishment! Here is an excerpt from a previous post of mine (Equality in America: Oversold and Overbought!):

With one person, one vote becoming a reality as a result of the Civil Rights movement, America was fundamentally changed from a republic with full-blown capitalism and a limited-version of democracy to full-blown democracy and an increasingly crippled version of capitalism, totally against the wisdom of the founding fathers (America: Republic vs. Democracy)!

I don’t know much about Mr. Dingell, so I have no personal opinion about him. However, it’s a well-known fact that Congress has an abysmal disapproval rate of 87% among Americans! Two questions:

  1. Would you be proud like Mr. Dingell to have long “served” in an institution like our Congress, which, with his complicity, is providing great personal success to him while destroying the greatest economy the world has ever known?

  2. Why is Congress so overwhelmingly disapproved by American people?

It’s The Political System, Stupid! Specifically, it’s the career politicians like John Dingell, Nancy Pelosi, Harry Reid, John McCain, and Lindsey Graham that are the problem for America: they are self-serving politicians and they work for one purpose only: getting re-elected ad nauseam, even if it means destroying America from the extreme left (i.e. Democratic Socialism) and the extreme right (i.e. Democratic Imperialism).
