Which American cities are proving the most attractive for young college graduates?

Traditionally, young people setting out on their careers were drawn to big financial powerhouses like New York or Washington D.C. This is starting to change with many college graduates settling in smaller and more economically challenging locations.

Over the past decade, Houston, Nashville and Denver have all turned into boom towns for college graduates with population increases of 50, 48 and 47 percent respectively. However, smaller cities with bleaker job prospects are following close behind. Buffalo, New York, is a prime example, experiencing a 34 percent change in its population of college graduates between 2000 and 2012. This is despite the fact that almost 30 percent of people are living below the poverty line.

% change in the number of college graduates living in U.S. cities from 2000 to 2012.
