The U-6* unemployment rate is currently at 12.8% This remains higher than any time during the past 20 years except for the Great Recession. It would be even higher if the labor force was not not depressed in numbers by people having given up looking for work altogether. This week I am examining where those missing people no longer in the labor force are located (demographically).

*The U-6 unemployment rate which identifies total unemployed (who are in the widely followed U-3 rate), plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force, plus total employed part time for economic reasons, as a percent of the civilian labor force plus all persons marginally attached to the labor force.
