Econintersect: Incoming Federal reserve Board Chairman Janet Yellen has filed her financial disclosure document. It lists all financial holdings and sources of income. Econintersect has totaled the value of all investments on the list and the total is between $4 million and a little over $12 million in value. Why such a wide range? It’s because each investment value is disclosed only as falling within range such as between $15,000 and $50,000 or between $100,000 and $250,000.
What sort of esoteric investments does the world’s most powerful banker hold? Dr. Yellen is a rather conservative investor owning a number of stocks and mutual funds, including several bond mutual funds. There is nothing esoteric about her portfolio. Interestingly, while she owns both stocks and equity mutual funds all bond investments are in the form of mutual funds. Most financial advisors move clients away from mutual funds and into individual bonds for preservation of capital in a rising interest rate environment. Does this reflect Yellen’s view of interest rate prospects or is she simply going to hold her mutual funds all the way through a full cycle?
