Econintersect: A week ago President Obama attended the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation in Hawaii. As host of the regional organization meeting, the White House arranged for the social aspects of the affair including a “healthy sampling of Hawaiian culture,” according to the Washington Post. One of the arrangements made was for young Hawaiian artist with single name, Makana, who had previously performed at the White House in 2009, according to a message circulating on the internet, to provide some background music during dinner. He performed for 45 minutes with what could be described as the “Anthem of Occupy.”
Here is a video description of what happened as told by Makana as shown in the Washington Post:
This may not be the “Stars Spangled Banner” or “The Marseilles” but it certainly covers a lot of the grievances of the Occupy movement. The artist is like a young Pete Seeger, but with a much more lyrical voice. Here is the music video of “The Anthem” or , as the artist has named it, “We Are The Many:”
This story was in the arts section of the Washington Post on November 14. It took someone who was alert enough to start circulating the music video on the interent to bring it to Econintersect‘s attention.
