Gold and Precious Metals Fund: Breakout or Fakeout?

The U.S. Global Investors Gold and Precious Metals Fund recently experienced a price breakout.  Whether this proves to be a profitable short-term trade remains to be seen.  (It has returned to the December lows in the past week.)  But this breakout and follow-through is not the most important concern for gold. The long-term store of value and portfolio diversification aspects of gold are the reasons it should be in every portfolio, whether it is also used as a trading vehicle or not.
