Gold Flash Crash Monday May 1

May 1st, 2012
in econ_news

arrow-up-and-downSMALLEconintersect:  There were circuit breakers kicking in at about 8:31-32 am today (1 May 2012) as Gold dropped $15 an ounce in just a couple of seconds.   The show was all over in about ten seconds and the entire drop was recovered in the next two hours or so.  This is just another example of instabilities that can grab control of trading in this age of computer controlled transactions.  A discussion of the flash crash is conducted on a video following the "Read more..." break.  Please tolerate the commercial pitch - the illustrated presentation is worth going through the commercials.

We will post any such studies we find. I suspect that there may be correlations between such factors as self-esteem, education level, economic achievement and obesity. This may have been studied - we will be looking for such research.
