Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas have been trading airstrikes and rocket fire in a sharp escalation of violence over the past week. Hamas’ Al Qassam Brigades announced that they fired a barrage of 130 rockets at Israeli cities north of the Gaza Strip in what would be the largest single volley of projectiles seen by the militants. A closer analysis of the group’s rocket arsenal was carried out by Fabian Hinz on Twitter. He listed 15 different rockets in total, with at least five being supplied to the Al Qassam Brigades by Iran and Syria. The M302, supplied by the latter, has the longest range out of all the group’s rockets at 180 kilometers. Hinz states that the R-160 has the longest range out of all the domestically produced projectiles at some 160 kilometers. A further five have an operational radius of 75 kilometers or more.
