Even the entire country of Australia, with its 22,293 mile long coastline, experienced less shark attacks between 2007 and 2016 than the U.S. state of Florida.
According to the University of Florida, there were 244 attacks during this period. One distinction between the two locations however, is the number of fatal attacks. Florida only saw one deadly attack while Australia suffered 15. Globally from 2007 to 2016 there were 61 deadly attacks by sharks.
This chart shows global shark attacks from 2007 to 2016 by location.
