Donald Trump’s announcement of a new labor secretary nominee on two weeks ago turned into a memorable press conference, during which Trump hailed his administration’s early achievements, dealt a couple of blows to the “failing” and “dishonest” press and presented his very own version of the truth on several accounts.
While Trump’s description of his administration as a “fine-tuned machine” seems euphemistic to say the least, some of his other claims were just plain wrong.
One of the statements he made was that his election victory came with “the biggest electoral college win since Ronald Reagan“, because “people came out and voted like they’ve never before“. That simply isn’t true. According to the U.S. National Archives and Records Administration, until now not suspected of spreading fake news, Trump’s victory was not as much of a landslide as he would like us to believe. In fact, he won fewer electoral votes than all but one president since Ronald Reagan: with 271 (2000) and 286 (2004) votes, George W. Bush was the only one to win by a smaller margin than Trump did.
