Donald Trump has collected much more donations for his inauguration than his predecessors.
His committee raised $90 million, almost twice the sum his predecessor Barack Obama collected for both his inaugurations. All the glitzy parts of the inauguration are paid for by the Presidential Inaugural Committee, like parties, dinners, balls. The actual swearing-in ceremony, the parade and all security is paid for by the federal government.
According to the Washington Post, this year’s inauguration could cost from $175 to $200 million in total. Trump takes the oath to become President in front of the Capitol in Washington D.C. on January 20, 2017.
This chart shows the amount of donations raised for the inauguration of selected U.S. presidents (in $ millions).
